A total of $289 was raised for the Greene County Single Parent Scholarship Fund during a Chili Cook-Off held on the BRTC Paragould campus.
Eleven contestants, consisting of BRTC faculty, staff and students, were judged by five individuals from the community.听 Winners were:听 Dana Bradford, 1st place; Carol Roberts, 2nd place; and Audra Howerton, 3rd place.听 Mallory Smothers was voted People鈥檚 Choice by the faculty, staff and students.
鈥淭his was the first fundraiser held at BRTC-Paragould for the GCSPSF,鈥� said Kathryn Lewis, Administrative Specialist, 鈥渂ut we plan to make it an annual event.鈥�
To be eligible for a scholarship through GCSPSF, the applicant must be a resident of Greene County pursuing an undergraduate degree, be single and head of household, responsible for the care of a minor age child, and be in the low-income category, at or below poverty level.听 Applicants must also first apply for the Pell Grant and have a 2.50 GPA or better if already in school.
